Christy Funsch, MFA, CMA Is a performer, choreographer, and educator who formed Funsch Dance Experience in 2002. She has been presented internationally, nationally, and throughout California. She has enjoyed rich collaborative partnerships with Nol Simonse and many others. She has been awarded residencies at CounterPULSE, Djerassi, Shawl Anderson, the U Cross Foundation, and Yaddo. In 2013, Christy was a mentored through CHIME by Tere O’Connor. In 2014, she was presented in Yerba Buena’s Bay Area Now Series and named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch.” In 2015, she became the first woman granted permission to learn and perform Daniel Nagrin's 1965 solo Path.
Jiayi Young is an Assistant Professor of Design at the University of California, Davis. Her interest lies within the discipline of experimental media as it applies to the intersection of art, design, science and technology. As an artist and designer, her current research and creative work is focused in the emergent fields of data mapping and sensor-driven objects, interfaces, projections, and immersive environments. Using multidisciplinary approaches, her work examines contemporary society including the culture of consumption, the programming and exploitation of the feminine, cultural assimilation, and personal identity. Young is deeply invested in exploring the place of the “self”, as we attempt to balance technology with questions about the human condition.
